The West Cal Chamber of Commerce has recognized an Outstanding Citizen of the Year since 1984. This esteemed award recognizes a person who has demonstrated excellent citizenship and contributions to the people of West Calcasieu and beyond.
The 2023 West Calcasieu Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year is President of Meyer & Associates, Mr. Vernon Meyer. While this year's honoree was not born in SWLA, there is no doubt that he will forever call this area his home. He has made many positive contributions to Southwest Louisiana over many decades, and for much of that time has been a member of the West Calcasieu Chamber ofCommerce. This leader provides both jobs and services that improve the quality of life for many citizens, but beyond that, he serves as a great mentor to people of all ages and stands strong in his faith in God.
He's generously supported many, many activities that are too numerous to mention. A few of these include support of 4-H activities across Imperial Calcasieu by purchasing of all sorts of livestock, sponsorship of numerous recreational sports teams, Partners in Education, and much, much more. He's been described as someone who gives unselfishly of his talents, time and energy to help his fellow man, while showing a genuine compassion for his family, friends, employees, business associates and other patrons of West Calcasieu and Southwest Louisiana. He has already been named Citizen of the year for the City of Westlake, and received the Civic Service Award for the Chamber Southwest.
